Wooden Nickel - The CSNY Italian Fanzine

Wooden Nickel was Francesco Lucarelli, Mauro Cosia, Stefano Frollano
(along with a cast of other contributors, many whom now still
participate
with the csny forums online, myself included.)
This defunct CSNY fanzine,
which took it's name from the infamous CSNY bootleg of
their performances at the Monterey Folk Festival in September
1969
aka the performances from the film doucmentary
"Celebration at Big Sur;"
published their first issue in December 1983.
It was a limited edition of only 15 copies, in Italian.
By issue #2 in March of 1983, they began to publish
also in the English language. I first found out about Wooden Nickel
through Broken Arrow,
the long running Neil Young fanzine, that was based out of Wales.
It has unfortunately ceased publication this year.
Back in the day, before internet; it was a different world being
a music fan. It was nearly
impossible to get information on shows out of your local town,
let alone abroad.
Fans had no way to get in contact with one another, to go to shows
with
or trade live music etc.
These fanzines were the life-blood for us diehards dedicated to the music.
I can remember first contacting Francesco Lucarelli about subscribing and we soon shared
many a snail mail over the the years. Later, we meet live in the
states
to see Crosby and Nash in 1986, soon after David had been
released from prison.
Here is the suitelorraine.com tribute to WOODEN NICKEL Fanzine.
And the ride is not over yet. The culmination of post Wooden Nickel
will be via the
book project that he, Stefano Frollano, Herman Verbeke, and Luus van
Diggelen will release soon.
Good Luck with the book project.
Cheers!
