LONE STAR CAFE

In November 1981 I saw David at the Lone Star Cafe in NYC, which was on 5th Avenue and the corner of 13th Street. A great watering hole. Saw lots of good shows there, Jorma, McGuinn, Johnny Winter, Buddy Cage etc. There were 2 floors; the downstairs was a long hall setting, with a bar and small standing area in the front and tables and kitchen in the back. You could virtually stand at the bar and be a few feet from the stage; it was tiny and very low to the ground. Upstairs there were more tables and another bar.

Pre-show, I looked for David upstairs to say hello and present him with a tee shirt, which my sister "flo" and I made for him. The shirt which had printed on it "THE CAPTAIN" was a direct reference to his love for sailing and the "Mayan".....

The"CSN Online" tee would be reborn 15 years later!

He thanked me with a big "Croz" smile ...and chatted with me as he prepared to go on stage. In the small environment, the sound was nice and loud. When they kicked into the electric set with “Low Down Payment”, it was smoking! The front door to the venue had a revolving door and during the set I remember Mary Travers of (Peter, Paul and Mary) walking in...she waved and said hello to David while he was jaming. Later Kinky Friedman who played many a gig there also, showed up to hear Crosby croon a few tunes. It was a wacky NYC night, ripe for good music.

In 1996, I had the opportunity to work on and create the CSN Online tee shirt for the Internet community. Ramiro, my husband, put the design together from a photo of "The Captain's" boat, "The Mayan". This image became a way for people to get together and friends to identify one another. It was and still is a project out of love and not profit. We sell the shirts at cost to the fans.

During the 1996 tour, Ramiro and I had a chance to give David a batch of the Tees in person. It gave us great satisfaction to be there and see David give online fans the almighty universal "Online Typing" symbol from the stage! David aka "page 43@aol.com" has graciously welcomed the online community with open arms. Many aftershow Online gatherings have taking place since then ...many an autographed Tee. We love you too David ; )
Online Fans With Signed Tee
To me, the 1996 tour was one of the finest CSN tours ever. The band was revitalized and fresh and biting at the bit. Another project arranged through the internet was a survey on Hans Veldhuizen's CSN site; where he polled the visitors asking them to name what songs they would like to hear on tour. Hans tallied the data, forwarded it to David and subsequently we were actually treated to a lusterous array of song gems on that tour, such as the
return of 49 Bye Byes, Immigration Man, Wild Tales and Turn Turn Turn. This was a diehard fans dream to move away from the standard setlists and venture into some other delicious territory.

I saw a bunch of shows on the 96 tour. One of the stops was The New York State Fair in Syracuse New York. It was here that we met with David and chatted for a while. We were deemed the "online people".
