Manassas was a band that allowed Stephen to explore various musical avenues. blues, latin, folk, country and rock and roll. The first self entitled double record release "Manassas" is a stellar example of Stills creative diversity.

Late 1971**While recording in Miami, Stills, joined by Chris Hillman and Al Perkins from The Flying Burrito Brothers, Dallas Taylor drummer for CSNY, percussionist Joe Lala, Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels on bass and keyboardist Paul Harris form the new group Manassas.

May 1972**The double album Manassas hits #4 on the US Billboard charts, and #30 in the UK.

June 1972**The single "It Doesn't Matter" peaks on the US Billboard charts at # 61.

July 1972**The follow-up single "Rock n Roll Crazies" reaches US Billboard charts #92.

May 1973**Second Manassas album "Down the Road" reaches #26 in the US and makes #33 in the UK.

June 1973**"Down the Road" extracted single "Isn't About Time" peaks at US#56.

September 1973**Hillman, Perkins and Harris leave Manassas to form the Souther, Hillman, Furay Band with JD Souther and Richie Furay. Stills replaces them with Donnie Dacus (guitar), Jerry Aiello (keyboards) and Russ Kunkel (drums).

May 1974**Stills disbands Manassas.
