Looking Good!!!

"As for the show, it was everything I expected. It was an intimate setting much like VH1 Storytellers.
Graham was seated on stage with another gentleman, David Spero -who I later found out is the director
of programming for the R&R Hall of Fame; (and Joe Walsh's manager - Lorraine).

David would ask Graham questions about his life and his career as a musician, photographer and collector.
In between the question and answer session, Graham would sing excerpts from songs, some requested
by the audience. Some of the ones he sang were "King Midas in Reverse" (requested from someone in the
audience), "Carrie Anne" (which he said was written for Marianne Faithful), "Simple Man" (which was written
during his break up with Joni Mitchell), "Ohio" and "Heartland" to name just a few. He even sang a couple of
new ones in their entirety, "Come With Me" which he wrote for his wife and "Try to Find Me" which was
inspired by some of the Bridge School kids.
(Graham recently recorded both of these songs for his next solo project. - Lorraine).

He moved back and forth from guitar to keyboard and also played harmonica. He sounded very very good.
His voice was right on. Graham was presented with a giant size membership card to the Hall of Fame,
a wallet size one and a R&R Hall of Fame jacket which he later wore at the reception. The show started
a little past 7:30 and ended around 9:15. What a great show it was!"

Graham appears on the latest release from ACOUSTIC JUNCTION.

*short bio*

The jam band Acoustic Junction was formed in Boulder, CO in 1989 by singer/guitarist Reed Foehl; although the group endured endless line-up changes in the years which followed, other mainstays of the roster included multi-instrumentalist Tim Roper, bassist Curtis Thompson and drummer Matt Coconis. Earning a devoted cult following thanks to their relentless tour schedule, Acoustic Junction independently issued a pair of albums, Surrounded by Change and Love It for What It Is, which together sold in excess of 50,000 copies; the group then signed to Capricorn, but as the "Acoustic" label no longer fit their music they rechristened themselves Fool's Progress to release their self-titled 1997 major label debut. A return to the better-known Acoustic Junction moniker preceded the 1999 release of Live 5-4-99; Strange Days appeared early the following year. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Their new album is titled "Strange Days" and is out on Omad records.

It can be purchased at cdnow.com

Graham added his vocals to the song: "Dancin for You."

A feature in this issue is JOHN LENNON Remembered.
Fellow musicians recalling where they were when they heard JOHN was shot.
Among the artists included are DAVID CROSBY and GRAHAM NASH:

GRAHAM NASH
I was lying on my bed watching Monday Night Football - it was
Miami and the New England Patriots - when I heard the news. Howard Cosell
broke the news. Apart from being very, very, upset by the loss of someone
whom I had met many times, the first thing that occurred to me was wondering
how many songs we were never going to hear, that were working around in his head.

I'd been acquainted with John since about 1958 before the Beatles. The first
time I actually met him was at the Cavern in Liverpool in, like, 1962, when the
Hollies were playing on the same bill as the Beatles. John was always on
the front edge - it's very much the same as what Neil (Young) does.
All those incredible people are always on the front edge. And sometimes they
fall, and sometimes they fly. John's legacy is that he gave as much
dignity to the common man as he could. He stood for dignity and respect
and songs that had a reason for being.

They are projecting a pre-Christmas release.

08/17/00 Although it is not listed on the Biography website, our own Mr Graham Nash has been the guest host
this week for the Legends in Rock A&E Biography shows.
I missed the Dylan 2 hour show on Sunday. Hope I can catch it again on the rerun.
I did see the latter 3, David Crosby, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin.
After a 2nd viewing of the Crosby show, I realized they showed a brief glimpse of CPR at BB King Blues
Club and Grill... nice!
I am getting spoiled seeing Graham on the tube each nite this week.
A&E must have remember him for his great job as host, when he had his
short lived A&E series

The Friends of FRED WALECKI.
FRED WALECKI has been a beloved Los Angeles fixture to musicians for over 30 years
as the proprietor @ Westwood Music. Fred has had serious surgery causing disability, due to throat cancer,
and has incurred medical expenses not covered by insurance.
There are Golden and Silver Circle tickets being sold. Please call the Guacamole Fund for more information: 800-728-6223
Here is some background info on Westwood Music and FRED WALECKI found on his website @ http://westwoodmusic.com

Westwood Music is known throughout the country as the leader in understanding and anticipating a musician’s needs and for developing the technology to meet those needs. We create solutions to problems that even musicians at times are unable to articulate. Since our beginning 50 years ago, we have always been known for treating each customer, from beginner to pro, with legendary warmth and service. Since the ‘60’s, Westwood Music and its owner, Fred Walecki, have been at the center of rock and roll legend-making. The stories abound--like the time the Stones went to see Sonny and Brownie at the Ash Grove, driven by Fred in his mom’s station wagon. Or when Bernie Leadon promised to stand good for a Westwood Music charge account for his new band, which had come up with the questionable name of "The Eagles". Those were wild and heady days.

Founded first as a rare violin, harp, and orchestral instrument store by Hermann Walecki in 1947, Westwood Music gained international stature as Hermann sold some of the most important rare instruments of this century: the "Lord Nelson Stradivarius", the "Markivich Stradivarius", and the "Mendolson Stradivarius", to mention only a few. When Hermann fell ill in 1966, his son Fred, at the age of nineteen, took over the business.

Realizing his sensibilities lay more with guitars and other modern instruments, Fred gradually phased out the rare instrument side of the business and began to cater to clients involved in the new sounds of the ‘60’s. Within a few short years Fred had been befriended by such music legends as The Buffalo Springfield, Bernie Leadon, Ned Doheny, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Poco, Linda Rondstadt, and The Byrds And the rest, as they say, is Rock and Roll history, as evidenced by the abundance of Gold Records lining the walls of the store from groups both past and present.

Through the ‘70’s, 80’s, and 90’s the client list has grown and grown for one simple reason–no other music store in Southern California is really involved with what large stage groups need, i.e., custom length, high quality cords; kel lights, batteries, gaffers tape, custom anvil cases measured for the clients at their rehearsal halls, and personal, 24 hour commitment to service. Late night phone calls at home to Fred from a group in a bind are common. Twelve hours to a guy on the road who is unable to get a three-dollar item that will make or break the pedal steel player seems like an eternity. With Westwood Music behind them, that item is there next day by FedEx, delivered to the guy’s room by the bell hop with the morning coffee.

These days it’s hard to imagine what our store is like if you haven’t been in, but it’s a relief from the supermarket-type stores. The small profit margins of the chain stores seem to dictate impersonal treatment, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We meet their prices but not their lack of service. Buying a guitar used to be a great time and it still can be–picking up and playing twenty or so Martins before choosing the perfect one, or having the same people who set up Bruce Cockburn’s guitar set up yours. That’s very cool.

It helps that we have such a long and rich history with the old companies like Martin and Gibson. Things are a bunch easier when you actually know the humans you are speaking to at these big companies. How do we know them? First, we like the people at the big companies, and they like us. Heck, some of the high lamas at the big companies worked with us in our store years ago, like Ren Fergison back in the 60’s, or Chris Martin in the 70’s. Ren is one of the high guys at Gibson acoustic in Bozeman, and Chris is the main person at Martin now.

Beginning student, talented songwriter/bar player, and the fortunate few who have became musical legends–Westwood Music has been loyal to them all. We aren’t big but we are powerful when you need real help from real people who sell the good goods. It is not unusual on any given day to find Joni Mitchell or Lyle Lovett, Graham Nash or David Crosby, Kevin ("Kebmo") or Chris Hillman, visiting Westwood Music, talking with the other regular customers.

Graham Nash appeared Friday 06/09 on CBS’s
The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborne.
Thanks for the heads up Donna (CSNY2K@aol.com)!

The repartee was typical Kilborne, and Nash shined. Though I actually feel Kilborne was treading lightly. From Kilborne’s monologue and intro I got the impression he is a Nash and CSNY fan.

He even got Graham to pickup the guitar and strum a few bars of Just a Song, and Teach. Always a pleasure to see NashTV. Oh and I almost forget, Graham gave Kilborne a pack of CSNY 2000 rolling papers! He must like the guy! ;-)

MAY 2000

For the past several months that I've noticed, Highlander Musical Audio Products has been running an ad in Guitar Player Magazine with endorsements from David and Graham. They use Highlander pickups for their acoustic guitars.
Crosby quote: "The best sounding bridge pickup in the world."
Nash quote: "When playing live on stage, there's only one way to go, Highlander is it."

Graham has been making the TV rounds lately.
This evening, he appeared on the cable channel E Entertainment Network, on the E True Hollywood Story: Johnny Cash.

On Sunday Graham was profiled on CBS News Sunday Morning
Summary:
After 30 years, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young are still the voices of their generation. They recently released a CD of all new songs, and completed a national tour. Nash is Graham Nash, whose songs we have been singing for more than 30 years. Rita Braver profiles him.

05/17/00
Late last nite on cable PPV during a broadcast of the film "The Limey," I recognized the strains of The Hollies singing "King Midas in Reverse," during a Peter Fonda scene.
