NYC

Chris Stills gig @ Brownie's in NYC..........WOW !!!

Before seeing the performance, I had already become familiar with his work, since I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Chris Stills record, "100 Year Thing". The record is an excellent first release from a young artist. He also shines as a live performer. Chris and his ensemble brought the house down. As a music appreciator, and also as a Stills fan, I would implore everyone to buy Chris Stills debut record "100 Year Thing" which came out in January 1998.

Listening to his music, it is obvious that Chris has been hugely influenced by the work of both his parents (Musicians Stephen Stills and French singer-song writer, Veronique Sanson) and is truely talented, inspired and wants to make the music HAPPEN. He has the passion, that you would expect from a son o' Stills! He mixes various styles of folk, blues, and rock n roll, into a fusion that is uplifting. His vocals are absolutely sweet and he is surely driven to succeed.

The Stills/Sanson influence can be found through his performance and in his record. From the vocal intonations, to the phrasing, time and pace of the songs, the diverse mixture of complex styles, weaving in and out of songs; as well as his guitar attack and presence. But let it be clearly known, Chris Stills makes music that is his own.

The second song into his set tonight was "Rock N Roll Crazies", a Stephen Stills song from the classic 1972 Manassas double record. It was done as a fine tribute. A wonderful treat, a great performance, and I look forward to his future gigs.
