THANKS PATRICE!!!

The highlights of the evening for me were the performances of CSN, the Eagles and Paul Simon. Each artist/group did three songs.

CSN did Marrakesh Express, Helplessly Hoping and Love the One You're With. The finale with all performers was Teach Your Children with Nash featured on lead. This CSN version of Helplessly Hoping was exquisite. It was better than during the CSNY show in DC and it was excellent then. I didn't think they could do much better but they topped themselves. Stills voice was superb and when it meshed with the wonderful voices of Nash and Crosby to produce the magic that is CSN. I am not one to toss around praise lightly so when it comes from me it is sincere. They also did a rousing rendition of Love the One Your With which got the crowd's adrenaline going. At the end it was nice to see the three Eagles, Bette, Paul S. Darlene Love and others singing Teach.

Stills shared a moment with the audience. He recalled that 36 years ago around the time he wrote Helplessly Hoping he was in the nosebleed seats in Radio City Music Hall supporting the election of another "good" democrat (name not mentioned). I guess he was pointing out that the struggle continues.

The next highlight was Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Timothy B. Schmidt (three of the Eagles). Henley's rendition of Desperado was stunning. His voice had that characteristically husky quality that lent it self very well to the emotional content of the song. Frey's and Schmidt's harmony sowed it all together. They received a standing ovation for their effort.

Paul Simon was the final act. I had never seen him live and was surprised at the ease of his performance. His voice was the same to me as the first time I heard his records many years ago. His "World Music" version of Bridge Over Troubled Waters was a great rendition of the song. One of my favs.

The Al Gore Fund-Raiser Concert
Radio City Music Hall September 14th, 2000

By no means the hippest bill in show business, this event acquires a
near-revolutionary glow when you consider it's a fund-raiser for
presidential hopeful Al Gore. It's a no-brainer: Who do you want in the White
House? Is it the guy who actually knows who Macy Gray is? Or the one who,
in Philadelphia a few weeks ago, stomped his feet to Jon Secada, Billy Ray Cyrus
and Lee Greenwood?

Seriously, this could turn into an extravaganza of sex, drugs, rock and roll and
plain old bad taste.... Even the old timers here are cooler and more down
than most young Republicans. Bette Midler couldn't be tasteful if
she tried - and she's been trying for the past 12 years, honey.
Jimmy Buffet's oeurve includes anthems about drinking, fucking, and sucking
(okay on limes). Then there's CSN: Any group with a member who 's been
through drug hell and lived to donate his sperm to a couple
of lesbians - twice! - could get me to vote for ... oh, I don't know,
Ross Perot? Those who read Julia Phillips You'll Never Eat Lunch
in This Town Again
know that Don Henley and Glenn Frey - who'll be
doing some Eagles tunes - can sympathize with George W.'s cocaine
flap. Paul Simon could drop that smoke myself a "J" line from
"Late in the Evening."

As for the younger folks, Crow and Bon Jovi rock, but they seem
tame next to Kravitz, whose last album featured a song about a
ready-to-please fembot with an "electronic clit." As for Gray, she spent
the past year singing lyrics such as "The neighbors hear you, moanin' and
and groanin'/But I just can't help it, 'specially when we be bonin'" onstage.
Will someone please remind me this is a political rally? The cheapest ticket is $125.

BOBBY BROOKS

Bobby Brooks was CSN's friend & agent. He passed away in 1990, on the helicopter crash
that also took the life of STEVIE RAY VAUGHN.

I saw CSN that summer the same day as Brooks funeral in New Jersey.
They played a show at the Garden State Arts Center and Graham dedicated the show to Brooks,
as well as a brand new song that he wrote for Bobby Brooks.

The ad reads as follows:

Bobby Brooks
October 28th, 1955 - August 28th, 1990
______

Ten years ago, we tragically lost an amazing agent, a great friend
and most importantly, a special human being.

His unbridled spirit and passion for the people, the business and the music
were unique in our industry. His ability to make friends with the biggest rock stars
and industry leaders was rivaled only by his joy of befriending
every secretary, assistant, and roadie.

He enjoyed every show, he listened to every CD, he returned every phone
call. He could disarm difficult situations with his caustic sense of humor,
and embrace the best of times with a childlike wonder.

Most importantly, he was always amazed at that he could get paid to do what he
loved so much.

Help us honor his memory. Enjoy the music.....

JULY 2000

07/05/00 After work today I was in the drug store, walking down the shampoo aisle.. and guess what?
I had another CSN moment... This time it was the glorious strains of "Shadow Captain,"
playing throughout the store.

I tell ya, it was pretty loud and really peaking during the chorus, and I found myself singing along
outloud. I haven't heard that song in so long. Mighty tasty indeed, time to crack out the '77 record
and give it a spin. That record is a 100% masterpiece from side a to the last track on side b from mssrs cs&n.

Thanks David.
