August 1st, 2000 (Late show) BB King Blues Club, located in heart of 42nd Street in NYC, is an excellent new venue. The place is a class act, with an elegant and cozy bar setting. The atmosphere is cool and the main bar has tables and boths, surrounded by framed black and white 8x10's of some of the greatest blues masters. The background of the bar itself is a virtual "Altar" to "Lucille," BB's #1 main squeeze. With a photo of BB in the center, surrounded by old Lucille Guitar necks in a fan-like formation.... beautiful. Ramiro and I settled in for a couple of chilled Stella Artois on tap and took in the atmosphere. Show time arrived before we knew it, and into the main showroom we entered. There is a bar area here with seating at tables and booths in the back. There is not a bad seat in the house. The sound was loud and bright for both the openers "Anastasia and John," as well as for the main course, "CPR." The site lines are great, in this 500 capacity room. A great venue, where for my taste virtually nearly all the acts being booked here are a hot ticket.. from Jorma Kaukonen, to Levon Helm, Johnny Winter.. etc... a great venue. |

Here in the middle of this review I will now put my plea and bid for The Stephen Stills band to play this gig..even if it's a "one off", someone call ICM quick! Overall I enjoyed the performance, in this treat of a gig. Imagine a few short months ago, I sat along with 19,999 other "friends" and swayed to the strains of CSNY. We are lucky indeed, to get another chance at the small venues to feed our penchant for "live music." CPR has evolved and gotten very tight. They sounded great, and they were definitely jazzed to be playing together again.. in front of people. That's what it's all about, getting to play live. After the show we had a chance to say hello to the guys. Ramiro presented David with a piece of art that he created of CPR, from a photo he had taken last summer in Bethel, NY at the "A Day in the Garden," Woodstock 30th Anniversary music festival. Overall a great night. Personal shout out to our friend Tom Furey, who is the Production Director and House Engineer, at the club. Good to see you Tom. |
